MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Board of School Directors approved a 2013-2014 budget for Milwaukee Public Schools that adds 45 more librarians and teacher positions in the area of art, music, and physical education.

The district says this new budget will double the funding for art, music and physical education at K-5 and K-8 schools. They also say the new budget will result in 25 new full-time art teaching positions.

According to an MPS release, parents in Milwaukee have ranked adding more art, music and physical education teachers as a top priority in the budget's release.

"I'm proud to say we've made the largest possible investment in our children," MPS Superintendent Gergory Thornton says.

The budget also contains plans to expand the district's International Baccalaureate program, implementing the college board's SpringBoard pre-AP program in five schools, and redesigning the Bay View Middle and High School academic program.
