TWIN LAKES-Katie Mathia knew something was up. "My dog was acting strange," she tells CBS 58.

It was around 10 p.m. Monday just about the time the US Geological Survey says a 2.4 magnitude earthqauke struck. Its epicenter was two miles east of McHenry, Illinois.

"What was particularly unusual about this event," says Keith Sverdrup of UW Milwaukee, "was the fact that it wasn't located around any of the known major mapped faults in this region."

Katie says she saw her lights briefly flicker during the quake and believes that every pet owner should trust their family pet's "extra powers" of perception.

"Trust your animals," she says,"they know."
