BROOKFIELD-The city clerk tells CBS 58 News that 30% of registered voters cast their ballots before Tuesday, that's about 9,000 voters.

Only a couple hundred more than experienced in the last presidential election.

The clerk says the early voting and good organization is making for a smooth election day in Brookfield.

She reports a few times when the machines jammed, but no major problems.

"Because of the volume of ballots they have to be regularly cleaned out during the day so more ballots can be counted," Clerk Kelly Michaels explained. "All seven polling sites are going very smoothly."

Michaels says lines are the longest at the beginning and the end of the day, but voting shouldn't take more than a half hour in Brookfield.
