MILWAUKEE -- I-94 was closed near downtown Milwaukee for a good portion of the early morning commute Wednesday because of an accident.

At 5:30 a.m. a van hit the median wall on I-94 West near 27th Street. Officials say it crossed three lanes of traffic, hit a highway sign and a light pole, and then rolled over on its side.

CBS 58 has learned that the van caught fire but the driver was able to get out safely. She thought her 3-year-old son was in the car, officials say, and when officers couldn't find him, they shut down the freeway for about 40 minutes.

They eventually learned that the child was safe with his grandmother and was never in the van.

The woman was taken to the hospital but should be okay.

Officers don't think that drugs or alcohol had anything to do with the crash.
