MILWAUKEE COUNTY-- I-94 at Rawson opened early after construction was completed ahead of schedule.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said that favorable weather and ground conditions helped to complete the work earlier than expected.

Construction crews closed I-94 West from 27th Street to College Ave and I-94 East from Rawson Ave to Drexel Ave over the weekend to construct a a new storm sewer culvert.

The work required a full freeway closure.

That closure caused traffic to be backed up for miles,

Drivers had to endure major traffic jams especially on Saturday when thousands of fans packed into Miller Park to see Kenny Chesney.

The stretch of interstate was closed starting at 9 p.m. Friday and re-opened at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, which was 7.5 hours ahead of schedule.

The WisDOT said that the project was completed safely and efficiently.
