MILWAUKEE-A major milestone Monday for the volunteer effort to make sure as many Milwaukeeans as possible have a home.

Habitat for Humanity began to build house 500 near 40th and North.

It's one of seven homes they'll be working on in the Washington Park neighborhood over the next week.

"I feel really special, I feel really special," the new homeowner Renee told CBS 58 News.

She should be able to move in about eight months from now.

"I know she's excited to be able to be a homeowner and to bring her father out of hospice care," Melissa Herguth of Habitate added, "I think she's going to help change this neighborhood."

Wells Fargo is the lead sponsor for the build.
