Group files lawsuit against MATC for alleged Act 10 violations

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) has filed a lawsuit against the Milwaukee Area Technical College for allegedly taking part in illegal collective bargaining.

The group alleges MATC violated Act 10 by approving a labor agreement. In a release the group says the current labor agreement doesn't expire until February 2014.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit, MATC professor Victoria Monroe, has been teaching at MATC since 1984. She said, "I'm appalled that my union would flout the law and negotiate an illegal contract."

MATC Communications Director Kathleen Hohl released a statement:

"We have not been served with the lawsuit in question, but aware that it has been filed. We are confident in our position that it was permissible to negotiate with our represented employees due to the pending legal issues surrounding Act 10 and look forward to offering our defense."
