GREENFIELD - Fire ripped through a 16-unit apartment complex on Southridge Drive Saturday afternoon.

Fortunately, all 41 residents were able to get of the building safely, but none of the units are habitable.

It's believed the blaze began in the basement of the complex just after 1 PM and flames quickly made their way through the roof. Bitter cold and falling snow made it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze.

Virtually all fire departments in Milwaukee County, as well the 128th Air Refueling Wing and the New Berlin Fire Department assisted in fighting the blaze.

It's believed no one was seriously injured, but some firefighters suffered bumps and bruises after slipping on the ice near the fire.

Officials still don't have a cause.

The Red Cross is assisting residents with no other place to stay.
