WAUKESHA -- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker declared August 13, 2014 Purple Hearts for Healing Day in honor of the Waukesha girl who was nearly stabbed to death by two 12-year-old girls.

Governor Walker issued a proclamation asking people to wear purple for the 12-year-old stabbing victim. The victim faces a long recovery, but is well enough that she hopes to return to school when classes begin in September 2014.

The victim's family says, "The compassion and love expressed to us by the people of Wisconsin and from people around the world has greatly assisted our family in this healing process."
