Governor Walker proposes spending $14M to boost public safety

MILWAUKEE -- The Azana Spa and Salon shooting was brought up when Governor Scott Walker announced new initiatives as part of his budget proposals. Zina Daniel was killed by her husband during the mass shooting in Brookfield. Daniel had endured several incidences of domestic abuse.

The Governor announced a 14 million dollar budget boost for public safety programs, and one of them would help domestic abuse victims who have restraining orders.

Proposals by Governor Walker:

  • Add three million dollars into GPS monitoring for first time restraining.
  • Add one million dollars to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This would add five new positions to combat child sex trafficking.
  • Give four million dollars to the sexual assault victims program. It will fun crisis response to sexual assault
  • Provide six million more dollars to allow for local law enforcement to collect DNA samples at arrests.
