Ping pong legislation failed to find compromise to avoid government shut down
WASHINGTON D.C.-The whole country waited for action from Congress Monday..
Lawmakers failed to approve a funding bill, making a partial government shutdown all but certain with less than 40 minutes before the deadline of midnight.
First the House passed another funding bill with a provision to delay the individual mandate in Obama care.
Then, within an hour, the Senate voted to reject that plan.
"Its time for the senate to listen to the American people just like the House is listening to the American people, and to pass a one-year delay of Obama care," House Speaker John Bohner said.
"The affordable care act is moving forward." President Obama said in a nationally television press conference, "That funding is already in place. You can't shut it down. "
