Germantown -- Germantown police warning parents about a man who appears to be targeting local children. He allegedly asked a nine-year-old girl to touch him as they both walked their dogs on a quiet street.
"Extremely surprised," Therese Witt said.
"That's not a good thing," Dick Wright said.
People in a Germantown neighborhood share a similar reaction.
"It's been a very quiet neighborhood for the last 25 years," Wright said.
News that a man approached a nine-year-old girl Sunday night on Revere Lane and asked her to touch his genitals has some shook up.
"This has been a quiet, very family-oriented neighborhood," Witt said. "Never have had any problems like this in the 25 years we've lived out here."
It happened around 4:30 Sunday. A girl walking her dog near Revere Lane and Nigbor Drive encountered the man. After he made his request, the girl left quickly. He allegedly then said he was 'just kidding'. But she went home and her parents called police.
"The girl did the right thing, she immediately ran home with her dog," Germantown Police Lieutenant Todd Grenier said.
The nine-year-old provided police the man's description.
"She described as being in his forties, heavier set, with brown hair, facial hair, a goatee and sideburns."
He was walking a medium sized white dog.
"You get to recognize people and the dogs that walk around here," Witt explained.
Police want help from residents to find the man. Those living near where it happened are ready to help.
"Just with that ammunition, these people will watch," Wright said.
"I think it is a matter of the neighbors watching and reporting it, something suspicious," Witt said. "Even if it turns out to be nothing, better safe than sorry."
Police are hoping to identify the man so they can keep investigating. They say it's too early to speculate if the person would face any charges.
