Freezing temperatures pose challenges for workers

MILWAUKEE—Milwaukee hit a still air temperature of minus five degrees Tuesday.

Temperatures in this range pose a real hazard when it comes to hypothermia and frostbite which makes working outside not only challenging, but dangerous.

Several dozen ramp or tarmac workers have been out in zero degree weather at Mitchell Airport.

They spent much of the day loading or unloading luggage and directing the planes to the gate.

Even though we haven’t seen conditions like this in a while the workers said they come to expect it and they plan accordingly by wearing layers and protecting the hands and head.

They said that common sense goes long way too.
