Milwaukee -- Five Marquette University students were treated at the hospital after ingesting what school officials are calling "an alleged illegal narcotic," Sunday night. A female student was arrested following the on campus incident.

Brian Dorrington, Sr. Director of University Communication, released the following statement to CBS 58 Tuesday:

"Marquette’s Department of Public Safety responded to a medical incident Sunday night at McCormick Hall, and after officer arrival they discovered that five students ingested an alleged illegal narcotic. Due to medical concerns and the safety of the students involved all were taken to Sinai Samaritan Hospital for treatment and evaluation. One female student was also taken into custody by MPD for allegedly distributing narcotics.

Our first and foremost concern at Marquette University is that the students involved in the incident are safe and receive the proper medical treatment. We take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously and expect all of our students to uphold Marquette’s values. The university is grateful for the swift action our Department of Public Safety, Residence Hall staff and law enforcement partners who immediately responded to the students. The university has extensive drug and alcohol educational programs, including a dedicated coordinator who works to educate students about associated risks.

In the days to come, we will follow our standard procedure for drug and alcohol policy violations and initiate a student conduct process. Details of specific incidents and violations discussed in student conduct hearings, along with results, are not made public because of student privacy laws.

We don't have further details given the privacy laws, but know that we appreciate your respect of the students' privacy."

CBS 58 also reached out to the Milwaukee Police Department Tuesday. Lt. Mark Stanmeyer said "An arrest was made and the matter is currently pending in the District Attorney's office."
