WILLIAMS BAY -- An elderly woman was killed in a fire in Williams Bay Thursday evening.

A 75-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife were in their home at 83 Lackey Dr. when a fire broke out in the kitchen area around 8:20 p.m.

When fire crews arrived they found heavy fire coming from the front of the house. They were able to pull the 75-year-old man from the back of the home, but due to the difficult conditions they could not continue to search for the 70-year-old woman.

It took fire crews about two hours to get the blaze under control. They were able to locate the 70-year-old woman, who died from her injuries in the home. Two firefighters and the 70-year-old man were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews cleared the scene around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Williams Bay Fire Chief believes the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
