Dispatchers: The Hidden Heroes

by John Cuoco

MILWAUKEE- When you make a mistake at work, it's seldom a matter of life and death, that's not the case for 9-1-1 dispatchers here in Milwaukee County.

They're in charge of taking the call and making sure they get the help needed to the right location.

CBS 58 got an inside look at what dispatchers go through on a daily basis.

They spoke about the stories that still stick with them and the stresses of a job that often doesn't get the credit it's due.

These masters of multitasking also open up about being there for the community they serve.

If the stress does become overwhelming for a dispatcher, they're encouraged to meet with supervisors or they can go through the department's employee assistance program.

The people CBS 58 spoke with did say that the job is taxing and not for everyone.
