MILWAUKEE--Milwaukee County's Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced the end of a three-decade old waiting list for residents with intellectual and physical disabilities.

As of the November 1st individuals who are eligible for long-term support services will receive help immediately.

Residents will no longer have to wait for services like personal care, meals, transportation, employment training and other types of assistance.

The Disabilities Services Division collaborated with disabilities advocates, county board supervisors, and state law makers to work to get state funding and to place more than 3,000 people who had been on a waiting list for 10 years.

Everyone is now being serviced.

Those who call in the future will be processed and not put on a list.
