Deer Hunting Season Starts With a Few Changes
EAGLE-- Warm weather welcomed local hunters into the woods for the first day of gun deer hunting season. This year comes with a few changes for Wisconsin hunters. The season started a little earlier than usual which puts it closer in line with mating season. According to the DNR, deer are more active during mating season and less aware of hunters.
Governor Scott Walker called for changes after hunters complained last year. The Earn-A-Buck requirement no longer exists and neither did the anterless deer hunt in October.
"Both things will lead hunters to see more deer during the nine day hunting season," says DNR Wildlife Supervisor, Tim Lizotte.
You can expect more hunters trying to bag a buck this year. 10,522 more people bought gun deer hunting licenses by opening day this year compared to last year.
