Dangerous suspect at large in Racine
RACINE -- Police need your help to find an armed robbery suspect who managed to escape a tactical situation Thursday.
Racine police say 23-year-old Tony Ruffin robbed someone at gunpoint Wednesday night on Lincoln Street.
Then, late Thursday morning, the robbery victim called police after chasing Ruffin into a house just a few blocks from a grade school.
SWAT teams and armed police officers locked down the neighborhood along 6th Street and Memorial Drive.
They entered the home, but didn't find Ruffin inside. Police think he managed to escape before they were able to a form a secure perimeter.
Ruffin has a lengthy rap sheet, although most of his convictions are for misdemeanors like theft and disorderly conduct.
He was convicted of felony battery of prisoners in 2007 and was sentenced to a year in the Racine County Jail.
Police don't believe he fled the area yet. They do believe Ruffin and the robbery victim knew each other.
