DOC improves Sex Offender Registry

by Josh Landon

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections launched changes to the Sex Offender Registry website on April 28, 2014, which enhances the public’s ability to locate registered sex offenders.

Since 2001, the public has had the ability to search the Sex Offender Registry website by name or zip code. The new website includes a geographic search capability for sex offender registrants that live within a 1, 2 or 3 mile radius of a specific address.

Additionally, the new website provides a community notification system, so a user can be notified by e-mail when a sex offender registrant provides a home address that is near an address of interest to the user. There is also an expanded mapping functionality and an updated look.
