WAUWATOSA-Zoo Interchange construction started Sunday near Children's Hospital.

But before there were any lane closures or barricades there was a lot of coordinating with emergency crews.

"They know which ramps they have to take to get access here. They know which lanes they're closing and when they are closing, so all those routes are planned well in advance. They know how to get to the medical center," project Manager  Kurt Flieril tells CBS 58 News.

So far there have not been any delays, according to Flieril.

There is still  a southbound access to go west on Watertown Plank, all those other ramps are closed at Watertown plank, the service interchange along highway 45. Still, it can be confusing. They're asking for drivers patience.

There will be weekly meetings  law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency personnel.
