Colored Contacts Warning

by Keith Meka

WEST ALLIS -- Halloween is right around the corner, but be careful because certain popular costume accessories are illegal and potentially dangerous.

Many people spruce up their costumes with wild colored contact lenses. You're not going to find them at reputable costume shops because they're only legal in the U.S. with a valid prescription. A retailer that sells them without a prescription faces up to a $10,000 fine.

There are also some potential health risks with these contact lenses when they're not purchased with a prescription. Eye doctors say they can lead to infections, some vision loss and even blindness.
