Boycott & Buycott: Packers fans respond

by Vanessa Murphy

WAUWATOSA --- Packers fans are organizing "Boycott the NFL Week." They're urging the public to stop watching NFL games on television, and to not attend games through next Monday night.

"I was just so angry last night," Patti Wenzel said. The Packers fan said she vented on Facebook after the Green Bay Packers lost to the Seattle Seahawks Monday night. A controversial call was made by the replacement referees, which decided the outcome of the game.

"It was just stunning," Wenzel said.

Wenzel's friend, Ed Willing, saw her posts on Facebook which led to the creation of a Facebook page, "Boycott the NFL Week."

"By this morning, to see over 8,000 invites, I was like 'wow,' and this is just overnight," Willing said. "It's the fans stepping up and saying we want to save the NFL from itself."

While Wenzel, Willing, and their friends spread the message about their boycott, there is a "buycott" at the restaurant Wetzel co-owns, The North Avenue Grill at 7225 North Avenue in Tosa.

Customers who say the "Packers were robbed," get a 10 percent discount through Monday night.
