GREENFIELD-- 38-year-old Christopher Gish, the man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Greenfield police found 37-year-old Maggie Litwicki stabbed to death in July 2012. Litwicki and Gish had two children together, 7 and 8-year-old boys. Litwicki was also the mother of a young girl. Gish told police it was when she threatened to take the boys away from him that he killed her.

Litwicki's aunt, Shari Ayers, described her as a "loving person, caring, very close to the family, do anything for her family."

Litwicki's mother claims Gish was on drugs and emotionally abusive.

Gish is sentenced to 40 years, and 20 years probation.
