Children Santa Forgot But God Remembered

Murdered Milwaukee Girl Inspires Toy Giveaway

by Michele McCormack

MILWAUKEE-Career Youth Development or CYD hosted its annual gift giveaway Thursday for kids.

Presents included toys, clothing and books.

It's bittersweet for staffers considering their founder Jeanetta Robinson passed away in 2008. But many said they found comfort in knowing the program she loved so dearly continues to bring smiles and hope to local kids.

This act of love was born out of great tragedy after the murders of Jeanetta's daughter and grandaughter. The little girl was very much aware that other kids in her neighborhood had gone without for Christmas.

When she was alive little Netta would give away her own Christmas gifts on her Birthday December 27th.

"My mother always had a way of taking somethiong positive from something negative," current CYD Executive Director, Charles Walton explained, "so for 28 year we have had a party for Netta and give away presents for Christmas.
