Bret Bielema to leave Wisconsin to coach for Arkansas
MADISON--(CBS SPORTS) Bret Bielema will leave Wisconsin and become the new coach at Arkansas, CBSSports.com has confirmed.
In easily the biggest shocker of the coaching search season, Bielema is leaving Wisconsin after seven easons -- and with the Badgers in preparations to play in their third consecutive Rose Bowl. Bielema was Barry Alvarez' hand-picked successor when he stepped down at Wisconsin following the 2005 season. He had coached previously as an assistant at Wisconsin and Kansas State. Bielema is known for his defensive-minded, tough-running squads that produce 1,000-yard rushers like a Pez disenser. He seemingly has no ties to Arkansas or AD Jeff Long who conducted the search. Bielema is 68-24 in those seven seasons. The news was first reported by Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports. ESPN.com reported that Bielema will remain with the Badgers for the Rose Bowl. |
