Breathalyzers to be used at Brookfield high schools, events
Brookfield -- The Elmbrook School District will implement the use of breathalyzers at school sponsored events and during the school day at Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools.
The devices were delivered to the schools Tuesday, according to Superintendent Dr. Mark Hansen. There is one at each campus. "Like any school in the area or the country we deal on occasion with kids that make bad decisions," he said. "We wanted to make sure not only did the school district have the tools in our hands but the kids have the deterrents so as to make good choices."
Hansen said the goal is to create a safe and secure environment. "If a student is under suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol they'll be interviewed by an administrator and if they're still under suspicion a breathalyzer will be used."
The district plans to work with parents to make them aware of what's going on.
