Benefit in the Works for Toddler Mauled by Pit Bulls
by Elizabeth Fay

MILWAUKEE -- "All smiles. He was a great little kid," says Redd Messerschmidt about Dax Borchardt who was mauled to death by Pit Bulls on Wednesday.  Messerschmidt owns Reddoor, a bar in Elkhorn, where Borchardt's father works as a DJ.

Borchardt, a 14-month-old boy, was with Susan Iwicki, 30, when they were attacked by two of her Pit Bulls. According to the Walworth County Sheriff's Department the young boy has died from his injuries at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.

The attack happened around 12:45 p.m. on N2037 North Lakeshore Drive in the Town of Walworth.

According to the Sheriff's Office a local vet euthanized both animals and Iwicki will likely not face criminal charges.

Messerschmidt says friends of the Borchardt family are setting up a benefit in honor of Dax. Anyone interested in helping the family is asked to contact Nicole Jennison at or at (262)969-2744. Jennison is a friend of the family.
