MILWAUKEE---Tammy Baldwin made history Tuesday night by becoming the first openly gay lawmaker ever elected to the U.S. Senate. For one local couple, her victory is a source of pride, and a sign they've chosen the right place to live.

Five month ago, Dana and Michele Clark packed up their belongings and moved to Wisconsin to be near family and they say to be free to be who they are. They say living in Mississippi over several decades was hard because of oppression. They believe the Milwaukee area is a more tolerant and accepting place for them.

Tammy Baldwin's election as the first openly gay senator is very personal to them as well.

Together the Clarks, who just happen to both have the same last name, run a music shop called Sweet Music in Oak Creek. Dana can fix any string instrument, and Michele teaches music. They both love to sing, they say it brings them peace.

Both women say being a same-sex couple in the past has hurt their business, but now with Baldwin's win, they feel encouraged to have their voices heard. Dana and Michele insist the only thing worrying them now about their new hometown is Wisconsin winters.
