Marriott Hotel Groundbreaking
MILWAUKEE-- Work begins today on a new Marriott Hotel in downtown Milwaukee.
But instead of a ground breaking, they're holding a *wall-smashing* ceremony. The hotel will have 200 rooms, and it will take about two years and $54 million to build. The new Marriott will stand on Milwaukee and Wisconsin Avenue. The buildings there now date back to the 19th century. They will be renovated to incorporate the new hotel. This was a controversial project when it was under consideration. Now that it's approved, Mayor Tom Barrett and other community leaders will use sledge hammers to start breaking down a wall in one of the old buildings. That will signal the start of the project. |
