MILWAUKEE—An overnight fire engulfs two homes and claims the life of a seven-year-old boy.

The Milwaukee Fire Department was called out to 23rd St and Auer at 3:15 a.m. Saturday for a report of a house fire.

When they arrived flames were spreading from the first home to the house to the south.

Crews tried to do an interior attack, but were pushed back because of the heavy fire.

They switched to defensive mode and started to attack the fire from the exterior.

Once the fire was put out crews went inside the first home and found the body of the seven-year-old boy on the second floor.

The Milwaukee Police Department said that it appears that an adult babysitting four children may have left something on the stove that caused the fire.

The other three children made it out of the home safely.

The fire department said that the damage estimate for the two homes is about $70,000.
