2-Alarm Factory Fire in Cedarbug

by Becky Mortensen

CEDARBURG --- Fire crews were called to the Ataco Steel Products plant in Cedarburg Saturday afternoon around 3:23 p.m. for a fire alarm sounding.

While en route to the fire an employee called police reporting heavy smoke in the building. When crews arrived they found heavy smoke throughout the factory, making it difficult to find the origin of the fire. The fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm so crews could get more help clearing the smoke out of the building.

Fire crews found the fire originated inside a piece of ventilation equipment, however by the time they discovered it the flames were already out.

It took crews several hours to clear the building of smoke. No one was injured and crews cleared the scene around 7:30 p.m.
