MILWAUKEE-- The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a 2 alarm fire at a high rise on Milwaukee's east side Saturday night.

The fire broke out shortly after 9:00 p.m. near Prospect and Brady.

The fire started in a apartment on the 6th floor of the complex, which made it difficult for firefighters to get too.

All the residents on the 6th floor were evacuated from the building, but others were allowed to stay in their apartments.

The Fire Department said that they were safe inside their units and it was easier to keep them inside instead of trying to evacuate through the smoke filled hallways.

One resident had to be taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The apartment where the fire broke out sustained heavy damage and there was smoke damage throughout the 6th floor.

The Red Cross is assisting the resident whose apartment caught fire.

Others in the building have been allowed back in their apartments.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

There was about $150,000 worth of damage to the building and its contents.
