18 drunk drivers arrested during New Year's Eve enforcement initiative

MILWAUKEE-- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office arrested 18 drunken drivers during its New Year's Eve enforcement initiative.

Increased patrols were ordered from December 31 through January 1 to focus on keeping the public safe from those driving under the influence.

More than 40 law enforcement officers participated in those extra patrols.

The enforcement initiative resulted in the following arrests, citations, and calls for service:

125  Traffic stops
1      Seat belt citations
28    Excessive Speed citations
23        Unlicensed/Revoked/Suspended Drivers
39        Other Moving Violations (i.e. unsafe lane deviation, inattentive driving)
21          Non-moving violations (i.e. non-registration of vehicle, equipment violations)
18   Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Arrests
7     Crashes with property damage only
1     Crashes with injuries
0      Fatal crashes        
2      drunken driving-related crashes
3      Warrant arrests (2 Misdemeanor and one Felony Probation Violation)
1        Summary arrest for Felon In Possession of a Firearm (Stemming from an OWI-1st arrest)
2      Summary arrest for Resisting and obstructing an officer X2 (Use of Force – Taser incident)

- The first DUI arrest occurred at 7:47 p.m. Monday
- The last DUI arrest took place at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday
- The average prohibited alcohol level was .12
- The highest prohibited alcohol level was .20
