MILWAUKEE -- A 15-month-old suffered numerous wounds after being bit in the face by a pit bull in Caledonia. Police say the dog was owned by the child's mother.

At the time of the attack, the child was sitting on the kitchen floor eating a cookie. The dog may have been trying to retrieve the cookie from the child's mouth.

The 15-month-old child suffered several facial tears, puncture wounds, and missing teeth after being bit. The child's mother says the dog has a history of being aggressive with small children.

The child was transported to Children's Hospital for treatment.

The dog was turned over to the Countryside Humane Society of Racine. The owner has expressed an interest in euthanizing her dog.

According to police, this pit bull had a prior biting incident in 2009 where it bit its owner. The report says the 2009 incident required stitches. The incident comes on the heels of what neighbors say was the latest in a number of run-ins between neighbors and the dog.

No criminal charges have been forward to the Racine County District Attorney's Office, but that could change pending the completion of the police investigation.
