15-month-old mauled in the face by pit bull in Caledonia
MILWAUKEE - A 15 month old has successfully undergone surgery at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for severe facial injuries sustained after the pet Pit Bull Terrier bit him in the face.
Pictures shown to CBS 58 and our sister station Telemundo Wisconsin, show lost teeth, severe tears, and puncture wounds sustained to the face during the incident.
It happened at the home of Jacqueline and Joshua Ziminski on Ivy Lane in Caledonia on Wednesday evening.
The victim is the son of 21 year old Katie Haagensen.
According to Caledonia Police, the boy was eating a cookie on the kitchen floor when the dog apparently tried to snatch the cookie out of the baby's mouth, but instead caused the severe injuries.
This is not the first incident involving the dog named Mary Jane. According to police, the same dog attacked one of the owners in 2009 requiring stitches to Jacqueline Ziminski. Neighbors also complain of other incidents in which Mary Jane reportedly bit a residents arm and another boy in the neighborhood.
Mary Jane will likely be euthanized at the owners request. Meantime, the dog remains at The Countryside Humane Society of Racine.
As for charges, Caledonia police detectives say their investigation is ongoing and no-one has been charged in relation to the injuries sustained by the 15 month old.
