More than two dozen member of the U.S. Coast Guard from the Lake Michigan sector are now in Texas.
They were remembered along with all of the civilian victims at the annual Sea Services Picnic in Milwaukee.
The Navy League, Milwaukee chapter hosted the event which is a chance to show support for each other but also reward outstanding service.
The most recent disaster with Hurricane Harvey serving as a reminder of the life and death situations that await them potentially every day they report for duty.
"Right now we have 35 Coast Guardsmen from the community down in Houston helping with the hurricane," says Captain Tom Plantenberg of the Navy League. "I have famliy down there so I really appreciate that."
Many of the enlisted honorees also made a point of acknowledging the word of reservists in fulfilling the entire mission of the U.S. military.
