Local army veteran surprised with new home for family

It was something they never expected. A wounded veteran and his family gets surprised with a new home at Summerfest's Military Appreciation Day.

Army veteran Philip Olson, his wife and son received the honor Thursday thanks to Operation FINALLY HOME.

The organization's volunteers build custom houses for wounded heroes, mortgage free. The family will only be responsible for taxes and monthly bills.

Olson, who is also in school for mechanical engineering, said the surprise is a dream come true. Construction on the new two-story home in Waukesha begins this fall, with plans for move-in by next spring.

Operation FINALLY HOME is always looking for more support as 100 percent of donations go to surprises like these.
