Late week winter storm update

There still remains a lot of inconsistency with the models for our late week winter storm.  The models vary in the track and intensity of the surface low pressure area.  I want to be clear that we aren't comfortable posting snowfall totals right now!

One thing that came about today was the latest information favors more of a southerly track of the surface low.  If that happens heavier snow is a possibility for Friday night into Saturday morning.  The overall system has slowed and could impact travel going into the weekend, especially Saturday morning.

A band of light snow is expected to develop for Thursday morning and afternoon across the area.  The atmosphere will be relatively dry at the start, so only light snow below an inch is expected across the area.  As the surface low deepens to our south, moisture will rush north and cool quickly.  Heavy snow for Friday into Saturday is a possible, and travel across Wisconsin could be impacted going into Saturday.

Take a look at the arctic air that will blast in for the end of the weekend into early next week.  This will easily be the coldest air of the season.  Highs in the teens and lows in the single digits are expected.
