Informational meeting set for Monday night about MPS takeover plan

Milwaukee Public Schools has an informational meeting set for Monday night about the recovery school district.  A proposal from two republican state lawmakers would take struggling MPS schools and turn them over to independent operators.  The plan has caused uproar among many union leaders, teachers, and parents.  The district is having the meeting to share more information with parents.  It starts at 6:00 pm Monday night.

Jenni Hofschulte from Parents for Public Schools says it's all about engaging parents.
\"We know things that work around here,\" Hofschulte said Monday.  \"The deck is very stacked in Milwaukee. We have high poverty, we have high unemployment.\"

She says no one in Milwaukee was consulted about the proposal.

\"The pushback is because no one in Milwaukee was considered in this conversation,\" Hofschulte said.  \"To constantly be coming at it from a place of , an adversarial place, to say we've identified these schools as problems  and we know how to fix them I think is very disingenuous.\"

The meeting starts at 6:00 at MPS headquarters near 53rd and Vliet in Milwaukee.
