MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A bar on Brady Street is letting the community say goodbye to Engine 6, which is just one of the firehouses being decommissioned by the city.

Hosed on Brady held a “wake” but also thanked firefighters for keeping the community safe.

Employees say the engine is a staple on Brady Street and they’re sad to see it go.

“These firefighters sat outside, gave our dog treats, had water for dogs, took care of flowers, it was a community firehouse. It’s a sad day for all of us,” said Jason Hall with Hosed on Brady.

“The guys will work extra hard to make up for it. It’s going to be hard on the neighborhood to get used to the changes,” said Ret. Firefighter Gregory Browne.

Budget cuts forced the closure, decommissioning or relocation of more than half a dozen companies in the Milwaukee Fire Department.

Engine 6 had been serving the Brady Street neighborhood for 142 years.
