Hartford Police: Fingerprints lead to arrest in July burglaries

HARTFORD, Wis. (CBS 58) – An arrest has been made in connection with two burglaries after fingerprints were left at the scene, according to Hartford Police.

Investigators say Copper Tree Wellness Studio and the Pack & Ship Store, both in the 1300 block of E. Sumner Street in Hartford, were burglarized on the night of July 2. Police say a large rock was thrown into the glass entrance doors of both businesses.

Hartford Police say technicians found a variety of evidence including fingerprints on one of the cash registers and submitted those prints to the State Crime Lab on July 11 for analysis.

On September 7, the fingerprints came back, matching a 33-year-old Hartford man who had a previous criminal record, including convictions for multiple burglaries.  Investigators say the man had never been an employee of either store, meaning there was no explanation for his fingerprints to be on the evidence recovered in the investigation.

Hartford Police say they questioned the man on September 12 about the burglaries. They say he denied any involvement and offered no explanation for the evidence recovered in the investigation.

The man was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail on two felony counts of burglary.
