Greenfield Fire Shows Importance of Keeping Doors Closed

Saturday night Greenfield Firefighters responded to a call of a house filled with smoke after the resident returned home. Firefighters arrived and the fire was essentially out.

According to the fire department the room in which the fire was had its door closed. While the fire burned, it used up the oxygen in the room and with the door closed it no longer had limitless oxygen available to continue burning. Oxygen starved, the fire smothered.

Recent studies, reports have shown the importance of sleeping with the door closed to keep fire out. This fire shows the effectiveness of closed doors keeping fire in.

If the door was left open, the fire department is confident the entire home would be destroyed.
