MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A first of its kind interactive art exhibit is set to open at the downtown Northwestern Mutual tower in downtown Milwaukee.

Giving Gallery: Community in Process opens February 2018

Anyone can come into the lobby of the tower Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"It's a beautiful space and we're quite thrilled to welcome the public in and invite everyone to the Giving Gallery," says Lynn Heimbruch, Assistant Director of Strategic Philanthropy at Northwestern Mutual.

The exhibit was commissioned by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation to mark its 25 year anniversary.

Over that time, the foundation has invested more than $320 million in local nonprofits to make sure everyone has a chance at a brighter future.

26 pieces of original artwork will be featured in a variety of media from 17 artists with Wisconsin ties.

The artwork brings to life the profound impact these nonprofits have had in collaboration with the Northwestern Mutual Foundation.

"Art builds empathy," explains Heimbruch. "People connect via art. You can see the world through someone else's eyes."

It's hoped that this will inspire the observer to also take action in the community.

"People can donate time, money or advocate. We hope it inspires and spurs them to get more involved in Milwaukee."
