Gas prices up over 20 cents in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The average price of gas in Milwaukee has risen over 20 cents in just tent days. As of November 8, the average price of gas in Milwaukee was $2.63 according to gas buddy. On October 29 the average price was $2.42.

During the same time period, the average price of gas in the state of Wisconsin and the country has also risen, but less drastically. The average price of gas in Wisconsin has 11 cents in ten days and the average price for regular gas across the nation has risen nine cents. Before the spike, the price of gas in Milwaukee was nearly ten cents less than the average for the state and 15 cents less than the national average.

The price of regular gas in Milwaukee reached a peak on November 3 with an average price of $2.66.

This time last year, Milwaukee was just getting out of a 5-year low of gas prices with an average price around $2.00.

According to Gas Buddy, the surge in prices has to do with many factors but the main reason is that more people than expected have been driving this late in the travel season. Other factors include oil prices hitting a new 2017 high, a major pipeline leak and autumn refinery maintenance.
