Free immunizations, backpacks get students ready for new school year

MILWAUKEE-- It's a back-to-school, one-stop shopping experience, the 14th Annual Back-to-School Health Fair.



Organizers expect 1,500 kids and their parents will take advantage of free heath services critical to learning in the classroom.



One of those services is immunizations.



Most kids don't like getting shots, but they are required by state law and students must be up-to-date to go to school.



Right now, Milwaukee has an all-time high 88 percent compliance rate for vaccinations.



The number is below the public health goal of 95 percent, but city leaders say events like the health fair make reaching that possible.



Parents agree, saying protecting their kids from disease is key and gives them peace of mind when times are tough.



Those with up-to-date immunization records also got free backpacks and supplies.



Another back-to-school health fair will be Friday, August 15 at Bradley Tech High School from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
