NEXT:

This Saturday, August 12th, is the 6th Annual Serve Your City Day Celebration, revitalizing the Clarke Square Neighborhood!

As first announced on the CBS 58 News at Noon, the Boys and Girls Club has come on board and will be offering free memberships so kids have something to do in the year ahead.

"We want to make sure youth have other opportunities to get involved with other organizations throughout the year," says James Haley of Faith Builders which founded the event.

The event has grown to draw thousands of people to the Clarke Square Neighborhood to transform and beautify this area.

But this is not just a day of service; it's a huge community celebration.

The goal is to get as many people who live in that neighborhood along with churches, businesses', and non-profits, to work together to build a safe and friendly environment.

This massive joint effort is organized by Faith Builders Church and local organizations including Salvation Army, Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative, NewThreads of Hope, Boys & Girls Club and many more.

The Serve Your City Day begins with the registration at Clarke Square Park on August 12th at 8:00 am, 2330 W. Vieau Place (23rd & Mineral).

All materials will be provided; we do recommend bringing gloves for the cleanup. The celebration begins right after the cleanup. Some of the great highlights of the event: FREE hot meal, Harley Davidson clothes, Kids Area with bounce house, snow cones, cotton candy, and other carnival treats.

Faith Builders Community Teams will be having their monthly food, clothes and furniture giveaway during the celebration as well.

There will be a Resource area where people can get information about their health, jobs, schools and other resources needed to help them get to the next level in their lives.
