JEFFERSON, Wis. (CBS 58) – A 14-year-old boy was killed in a snowmobile accident in Jefferson County on Saturday night.
Authorities say John Jaeckel lost control over the weekend and hit a barbed-wire fence by Highway A and Advent Road near the Town of Sumner.
Jaeckel’s father, Jim Jaeckel, says his son loved the outdoors.
"Whether it was a snowmobile, four wheeler, motorcycle, riding a horse. As long as it was outdoors, it was him.”
Jaeckel’s cousin Michaela Banker says he was a fun loving teen who was more of a best friend to her than a cousin.
"We just kind of had that click,” Banker said. “It was just kind of something special. We did everything together. He's amazing."
There's been an outpouring of support from friends and the community since the accident and John's father Jim says it is helping the family through this difficult time.
'It's a very thoughtful time for the hurt and pain of what happened,” Jaeckel said.
Banker says she's having a hard time since everything reminds her of John and the fun they had together.
"I wish we had more time together,” Banker said.
The family will honor John Jaeckel during a funeral on Friday.
