Faith Builders Church helps families throughout the year, but the annual home delivery of Christmas gifts is among the favorties.

Santa and Mrs. Claus spent Saturday, September 9th, visiting with families on the south side, in particular the Clarke Square neighborhood.

Theses families are struggling every day, just trying to get by," James Haley of Faith Builders tells CBS 58 News.

The church has spent much of the year collecting donated toys.

Then, comes the recruitment for volunteers to wrap the presents and help deliver them.

This year, the 7th in the history of the event, they had their highest turnout, with some 15 thousand donated gifts.

"We started at Washington Street," recalled Haley. "Now, we've expanded to help Mineral, Scott, 16th, Greenfield, National. As we continue to grow and get more people and more donations, we're continuing to expand."

For one volunteer it was watching the reaction of the families that meant so much.

"Even if I'm not the one getting anything," the volunteer told CBS 58 News. "I love to see the kids happy before anything else."

Some parents were brought to tears seeing their children so excited.

"I feel happy for my kids," said mom Everly Huerta. "If my kids are happy, I am too."

Volunteers say that warm feeling from spreading love never gets old.

"Jesus is the reason for the season," added Haley. "We have to portray him in everything that we do."

The help doesn't end at Christmas.

The church keeps up with the families to make sure they still feel supported throughout the year.
