Drunk driver flees crash scene with flat tire

MOUNT PLEASANT-- Police catch up to a suspected drunk driver who crashed into a light pole and then fled the scene with a flat tire.

The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. Monday near Highway 20 and Washington Ave.

Police said that when they responded to the scene they witnessed a downed pole, but there was no vehicle in sight.

A witness told an officer that a vehicle hit the light pole in the median of the street while trying to make a left turn.

Shortly after the crash an officer located the vehicle driving on a flat tire that was nearly off the rim.

The 58-year-old driver was arrested for his 2nd OWI. He was also issued citations for operation the wrong way on a divided highway, unsafe lane deviation and hit and run property adjacent to the highway.

No one was injured in the crash.
